With weak justifications I fail myself,…

Is it any wonder, knowing that my transgressions are real,
even with remorse, I can hardly have any peace at all?

I see the results of my indulging,…
and accepting iniquity for so long.
Yet I know if I could distance myself from it all,
I would heal,…

There are those who nurture their beliefs,…
and you know they’re not easily led astray.
They, in turn, become another of the shining lights
that seem to know how to wend their way.
I see them choosing the right,
casting off temptations to do wrong.
And that I too might be stalwart in the weaknesses
of my nights,…

There are those who run, and are not weary,…
you’ve heard of them that walk and are never faint,…
that look to be happy in their allotted hours,
and act in concert with sinner and saints.

They seem to understand the balance
of joy and hardship as each comes along.

Here am I brokenhearted with choices
of what to do with my allotted time,
so in my weakness, I plummet once again,
as I decide to let bad habits rule my life.
